Cultural monovalent and polyvalent adsorbed inactivated vaccine against foot-and-mouth disease
Purpose:
The vaccine is used for prevention and in emergency cases in risk areas for immunization of cattle, buffaloes, yaks, sheep, goats, camels and deer against FMD.
In appearance the vaccine looks like a light-yellow liquid with white and light-gray friable sediment formed at storage. The sediment in the bottle is easily turned into homogenous suspended matter at shaking. The vaccine is made from inactivated FMD virus types A, O, C, Asia-1, SAT-1, SAT-2, SAT-3.
Method of vaccination:
In farms of the “buffer” zone, where vaccination has been carried out earlier, young cattle are vaccinated beginning at 4-months-old; young sheep and goats are vaccinated beginning at 3-months-old; and revaccination is carried out every three months up to 18 months old. Adult animals are revaccinated every 6 months.
At sites of infection there should be vaccinated all clinically healthy animals. In a zone under the threat and in farms where vaccination has not been carried out before, all animals should be vaccinated twice, at 10-20 days interval, beginning at one-day-old. Later young animals are revaccinated every three months up to 18-months-old. Adult animals are vaccinated every 6 months.
Animals are vaccinated in subcutaneous manner in the following doses:
- cattle, buffaloes, yaks, camels and deer are inoculated in the middle third of a neck or dewlap - 2 cm3; 3 cm3;
- sheep and goats are inoculated in the inner part of a thigh - 1 cm3; 1.5 cm3.
The vaccine is packaged into 4-450 cm3 bottles of suitable capacity.
Storage and transportation conditions:
The vaccine is stored and transported in a dark place at a temperature from 2 to 8°С. It is allowed to transport and store the vaccine at a temperature not higher than 20°С for 3 days.
Shelf life -18 months.
