Purpose
The virus vaccine is intended for prevention of rabies in wild carnivorous animals (foxes, wolves, white foxes, jackals, raccoon dogs) in unfavourable territories or territories under the threat in terms of rabies.
Description and characteristic
In appearance the virus vaccine looks like a briquette-bait of cylinder or parallelepiped shape in gray or dark brown color, weighing up to 30 g with specific smell to attract carnivorous animals. The virus vaccine is manufactured from the live attenuated strain PB-97 of the rabies virus, packaged in portions of 2 cm3.
Method of vaccination
In the regions under the threat of rabies the vaccine is used for immunization of wild carnivorous animals twice a year in the periods considering climate peculiarities of a region and intended animal species: in March-April-May in the absence of snow and at a stable positive temperature settling from 4°C to 10°C. In unfavourable regions with regard to rabies, additional (third) vaccination for young animals should be performed at the end of June – at the start of July. The regions sharing borders with the territories unfavourable in terms of rabies should include 25 km buffer zones where animals are vaccinated twice a year regardless of the epizootic situation. While placing of the vaccine it is required to ensure allocation of at least 8-10 briquettes for each potential burrow predatory area of an animal. The radius of fox’s or raccoon dog’s burrow predatory area does not exceed 500 m. In the absence of information about collocation of burrow predatory area, the vaccine should be spread in an amount of not less than 25 briquettes per 1 km2.
Immune response
The vaccine provokes the formation of immune response toward the causative pathogen of rabies in wild carnivorous animals (foxes, wolves, white foxes, jackals, raccoon dogs) with a duration of no less than 12 months in 21 days after its single application.
Production form
The briquettes are packed by 20 pieces (1 briquette – is a one dose) in blocks with dividers.
Storage and transportation conditions
The vaccine is stored and transported at temperatures from minus 10°C to minus 20°C. It is allowed to store and transport the virus vaccine without re-freezing at a plus temperature not higher than 10°C up to 35 days.
Shelf life - 12 months.
